The course offers a broad overview of Public International Law and current challenges to the international legal system, the rule of law and the foundations of liberal democracy. It will start with the historical genesis and philosophical justification of the democratic constitutional state. A focus will be put on the protection of fundamental and human rights in the national, supranational and international multi-level system in the interplay of constitutional law, European law, and international human rights law. A detailed list of topics will be uploaded here soon. Students will have to give a presentation and prepare an extended hand-out/ essay. The course will be held in English (or in German, if all students speak German).
