Studying Worldwide

Freemover

Even beyond Erasmus partnerships, the world is open to you with a bit of planning and dedication. As a “Freemover“, you can choose any foreign university, whether in Europe or beyond. However, you will need to organize your stay independently. When contacting the desired university, you need to clarify what study options are available and whether admission is even possible. Keep in mind that universities that are not EAH partners or part of the Faculty of Social Work may charge tuition fees depending on the country. Think carefully about where and when you want to go, and use the DAAD website for your research. There, you will find information on education systems, scholarships, and much more.

Even if you plan to study abroad outside the Erasmus program, please consult with Prof. Dr. von Harbou to discuss which credits from your time abroad can be transferred. You should also seek advice from the International Office.

Here you can find experience reports from students of other departments.

Funding

For financing study abroad outside of Erasmus+, you can seek support through Auslands-BAföG or various scholarships. For example, explore the DAAD scholarship database.

A specific funding opportunity is available through the DAAD: Each year, EAH Jena offers scholarships for study stays, travel expenses, and specialized courses outside the Erasmus program under the PROMOS program. You can find these and other scholarship options in the myStipendium database and the Initiative for Transparent Study Funding.

For more detailed information on the various funding opportunities, please visit the EAH website.

The Faculty of Social Work has an non-European partner university:

Amman (Jordan) – German Jordanian University (GJU)

The GJU is a German-Jordanian university with many international professors and offers education at a very high level. All courses are taught in English, and Arabic language courses are also offered. GJU offers a Bachelor in Social Work (Diploma program in Professional Training Certificate in Social Work: Refugees & Migrants) and a Master’s in Social Work/Migration and Refugees.

Social Work students can spend one to three semesters at GJU, and an obligatory internship can also be integrated into the stay. Semesters start in February or September. There are no tuition fees.
