Dr. Thomas Trenczek is professor of law at the EAH Jena, Germany, where he teaches public, criminal and juvenile law as well as mediation and conflict management. Dr. Trenczek holds both German law degrees, a Ph.D. in Law as well as a M.A. in Social Sciences. He is an accredited mediator in several countries and an internationally acknowledged mediation trainer of the SIMK. He is cofounder and president of the non-profit WAAGE (“scales”) Dispute Resolution Centre in Hanover, one of the major agencies in restorative justice and non-profit dispute resolution in Germany (cf. link). Prof. Trenczek is author of several books and law commentaries (e.g. The Basics of German Law; Handbook of Mediation and Conflict Management; Frankfurt commentary on Juvenile Welfare Law; Youth Delinquency, Youth Welfare and Criminal Justice) and numerous articles including “Conflict Management in Civil Society”, “Mediation in Germany” etc. Prof. Trenczek has been pursuing research in ADR/mediation and restorative justice several times (2001/02, 2006, 2011/12 und 2017) in Australia as well as New Zealand (e.g. Visiting Scholar of the University of Queensland and Griffith University Law School, both Brisbane/Aus. as well as Massey University, School of Social and Cultural Studies, Auckland/NZ). Prof. Trenczek acts as International Coordinator (Erasmus program) of the faculty and is member of the conciliation board of the EAH.
